O Autorce: Maria Markantonatou otrzymała doktorat na Uniwersytecie Albert-Ludwigs we Frankfurcie (stypendium Fundacji Friedricha Eberta). Prowadziła badania w kilku europejskich instytutach, w tym w Kolleg Postwachstumsgesellschaften, w Instytucie Socjologii na Friedrich-Schiller University w Jenie, w Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies in Cologne, na Wydziale Miejskiej i Regionalnej socjologii na Uniwersytecie Humboldta w Berlinie, w Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law we Frejburgu. Otrzymała stypendium im. Marii Curie i prowadziła badania na Uniwersytecie Keele i na Uniwersytecie Antwerpskim. Obecnie wykłada socjologię polityczną na Wydziale Socjologii, Uniwersytetu Egejskiego, w Lesbos, w Grecji.
